Antagonism of Desire examines the tension between traditional expectations placed on women in Georgia, entrenched societal norms, and the possibility of alternative identities.
Through movement that is deliberately limited, refined, and restrained, the choreography reflects how women navigate life within a patriarchal framework while seeking new modes of existence.
The work engages directly with the current political climate, addressing struggles for freedom, identity, gender equality, and acts of resistance.
The piece challenges conventional relationships shaped by gender norms, asking whether recognizing the constructed nature of these social dogmas can be the first step toward dismantling them.
Central to the performance is a metal costume, both a tangible object and a metaphor for internal states. It shapes the dancer’s motion, producing sound and resistance, and transforms into a conduit for emotion.
In this way, the body, costume, and sound merge into a single living instrument, embodying the interplay between physicality, constraint, and the urgent drive toward liberation.
