Neither is love the reason why she is helping the Greek to steal the Golden Fleece. Medea is the heiress of the Colchis throne, in a fight against her father and brother, who is, above all, ruled by the craving for revenge against the King, his family, and the kingdom of Colchis. Her aim is not to marry Jason but rather to destroy Colchis, her father’s family, and Colchian culture.
Paata Tsikolia’s new version offers a completely unexpected understanding of the myth, exploring something that is painful even to look at. Medea is still in her fatherland, and the beaches moist with Colchian blood are the soil where the mythical figure grows from. Everything started from here.
In 2021, the play was awarded the SABA literary prize in the nomination as the Best Drama of the year.
